At Tork, our mission is to make hygiene away from home more sustainable. This is how we address important sustainability topics, such as responsible fibre sourcing and lowering the carbon footprint of our products.

Science-based Targets

Since December 2018 our targets for CO2-reduction have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Goals include absolute targets for energy, electricity, transport, raw materials, suppliers and waste.

Essity has also committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from key raw materials purchased, transport, waste generated by operations and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 18% by 2030 (2016) and reducing greenhouse gas emissions byT 25% by 2030 (base year 2016) for energy use within the company and purchased electricity (scope 1 and 2).

FSC

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is independent third-party certification for responsibly sourced wood and wood fibre materials such as pulp. FSC certification bears the highest recognition among forest certification, and works actively to protect animal habitats, indigenous peoples’ rights, workers’ rights, and areas of significant environmental or cultural importance.

EU Ecolabel

This is the European Union’s labelling scheme for products that meet one of the world’s highest environmental standards. Tissue products with the EU Ecolabel certification that meet this standard are made from recycled fibre or virgin fibre from 100% Sustainably managed forests.

Blauer Engel

Blauer Engel is the world’s first environmental label, used in Germany. It sets high standards for environmentally friendly product design and has proven itself over the past 40 years as a reliable guide for a more Sustainable consumption. Products and services are always evaluated across their entire life cycle.

The Nordic Swan Label

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel was introduced in 1989 when the Nordic council of ministers founded “the Swan” to help consumers choose environmentally conscious products. Its criteria are developed from a life-cycle perspective: the product must fulfil requirements during its whole life, from when it’s produced until it’s recycled.
